The Institute of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences of the Estonian University of Life Sciences (EMU-IAES) is an interdisciplinary research and educational centre for among others biodiversity, management of semi-natural habitats, agriculture, landscape ecology and management, soil sciences. EMU is a leading institution for research, survey, monitoring, teaching and training in the agricultural and environmental sciences in the Baltic Region. EMU’s expertise is widely used by European and international organisations, in collaborative projects. EMU provides independent research to inform governmental institutions on agriculture, forestry, natural resource management, landscape management, environmental protection, and to raise public awareness of these issues.
The Institute of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences fulfils several research and applied projects financed by Estonian Ministry of Education and Research, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of the Environment, Environmental Investment Centre etc. and has an important place within the frame of international cooperation. IAES was involved in several projects related to the present proposal such as AlterNet, BIOHAB, EUMON, BIOPLATFORM, GEM-CON-BIO UNWIRE and EBONE. Estonian University of Life Science have qualified experts for carrying out ecosystem services mapping and producing spatial information.
In LIFE Viva Grass project the Estonian University of Life Sciences will carry out the mapping and assessment of ecosystem services and socioeconomic impacts, produce GIS data, contribute into the development of the sustainable planning tool and carry out trainings for the stakeholders.
