Baltic Environmental Forum Lithuania (BEF Lithuania) was founded in 2003 as a non-governmental, non-profit organization. Currently BEF Lithuania has 20 employees, amongst others some of the leading experts on agri-environmental measures management in the country. BEF Lithuania has been working in the areas of nature conservation, in terms of defining most valuable priority areas for the targeted species conservation, evaluation of the conservation status and management needs; institutional capacity building of protected areas administrations; stakeholder dialogue; awareness raising by ensuring economic and social motivation to foster win-win solutions for agriculture and environment by achieving the concrete benefit for the farmers in long-term perspective.

In the collaboration with local environmental authorities BEF Lithuania takes its share in preparation of more attractive agri-environmental support schemes, the ones responsible and favorable to wildlife farming. In its earmarked valuable upshot is the social–economic study on purpose to evaluate the benefit of agri-environmental measures for private sector as well as a guidebook to agricultural environment. As a part of the BEF Group network, BEF Lithuania together with offices in Latvia, Estonia, Germany and Russia has proven its experience in managing over 50 different national and international projects funded by EU (LIFE-Nature, LIFE-Information, Structural Funds, Leonardo da Vinci, FP6, Interreg, PHARE) and other funding mechanisms (EEA grants, Nordic Council of Ministers, DBU, Global Environmental Facility etc).

BEF Lithuania has a leading role among NGOs in environmental field and is well accepted as environmental actor by public and state institutions. BEF Lithuania is among most experienced organizations in Lithuania managing LIFE funded projects.

BEF Lithuania will act as a Coordinating Beneficiary in LIFE Viva Grass and will manage the whole project implementation and visibility as well as lead actions for developing the integrated planning tool for sustainable grassland management and demonstrating of ecosystem based planning solutions on viable grassland management on protected area level.
